David Cheng, MD, PhD – Chief of Nuclear Medicine and Medical Director PET Research Center at the Yale University School of Medicine, spoke at the ANS Connecticut Section Speaker Meeting on February 21st, 2012.  His presentation, entitled “Contributions of Nuclear Isotopes in Medicine in Perspective” is available here.

Since the end of World War II, radioisotopes have been introduced into both the research and clinical aspects of the medical field.  We have taken advantage of them mostly for diagnostic purposes but have moved into the therapeutic realms recently.  This talk introduced the many facets of diagnostic usage of radioisotopes, with emphasis on the physics of imaging equipments and the safety of radiation exposure to patients as well as to medical personnel.
