ANS Connecticut Section Speaker Meeting Announcement for September 12th, 2013

Environmental Cleanup of the Combustion Engineering Site

Please join us in welcoming John F. Conant, formerly of ABB/CE, who will speak about the Environmental Cleanup of the Combustion Engineering site on Dayhill Road in Windsor, CT.  This talk will address the cleanup of the site’s commercial nuclear contamination, the EPA Voluntary Remedial Action (VCA) program for chemicals, and the cleanup of Navy contamination, under FUSRAP (Formerly Utilized Sites Remedial Action Program), started in 1974 by the DOE for the old Manhattan and Cold War sites.  Many of our Westinghouse ANS members know this site well.  This talk should also be exciting for anyone interested in Environmental Engineering.

About the speaker:

John Conant has worked for over 42 years for ABB/CE and retired as the Director of Nuclear Engineering and Compliance for ABB in the U.S.  For the last 18 years, Mr. Conant has managed many aspects of nuclear and non-nuclear building decontamination and demolition, as well as soils, sub-grade piping/utilities, water bodies, and groundwater remediation.

We will be meeting at the Nutmeg Restaurant at 297 South Main Street, East Windsor, CT at 6PM.  All of the details are provided this flyer:  20130912 Speaker Meeting Announcement

So please save this date on your calendars and RSVP with your dinner selection, affiliation, and contact information by September 6th to Stephen Szarek at 860-731-6313 or  Dinner choices are:

  • Chicken Francaise
  • Grilled Salmon with an Herb White Wine Cream
  • Thin Sliced Roast Beef with au jus
