ANS Connecticut Section Speaker Meeting Announcement for October 17th, 2012

Lessons Learned from Fukushima

Highlights from the Special ANS committee on the Fukushima Daiichi accident, including a conclusion on what ANS can do to improve communication with the public during a nuclear incident.

Featuring the ANS President: Dr. Michael Corradini

Please join us in welcoming the ANS President Dr. Michael Corradini who will speak at the next American Nuclear Society Connecticut Section Dinner Meeting on Wednesday, October 17th 2012.  This talk will discuss the accident and the future of nuclear power after Fukushima.

The Tohoku earthquake and resulting tsunami caused a loss of all power at the Fukushima Daiichi site.  The resultant damage to fuel, reactor and containment released radioactive materials to the region surrounding the nuclear plants.

Although not directly affected, the U.S. nuclear power industry will take lessons from this accident.  The American Nuclear Society formed a special committee to examine the Fukushima Daiichi accident.  The committee was charged to provide a clear and concise explanation of the accident events, health physics and accident cleanup, as well as safety-related issues that emerged.  The committee also evaluated actions that ANS should consider to better communicate with the public during a nuclear event.

We will be meeting at The Nutmeg Restaurant at 297 South Main Street in East Windsor, CT 06088 at 6PM.  All of the details are provided this flyer:  20121017 Speaker Meeting Announcement.
