Photos from the Granby Memorial High School Job Shadow Day

Below are photos from the February 4th, 2014 Second Annual Job Shadow Day.  Students form Granby Memorial High School were invited into the Westinghouse Electric Company’s Addison Road Fuel Manufacturing Facility.   The students were paired with engineers working on the factory floor for part of the day.  Group sessions were also held to answer questions and to discuss career and college choices for ALL engineering fields.   A big THANK YOU to Westinghouse and to the Volunteers and the students who participated!

Granby Memorial High School Job Shadow Day

On February 5th, 2013, Westinghouse hosted a “Job Shadow Day” for 12 students from the Granby Memorial High School interested in engineering careers.  ANS Connecticut Section Officers Elizabeth Sundstrom, Felix Meissner, and Shawn Downey participated along with engineers from the Westinghouse Addison Road facility in Windsor, Connecticut.

The students were given a tour of the manufacturing floor and shown first hand how PWR fuel assemblies are made.  We later broke into small groups and tried our best to answer all the questions put to us.  Discussions included practical college and career advice as well as what engineers actually do all day.  It seems that we all had a few war stories to share.

Everyone who participated gave positive feedback and we hope to make this an annual event.
